April 2013 Update:

Well this has been a very productive spring so far.  Our snow is finally melted, and the ground is slowly thawing out, which really means LOTS OF MUD!!

We have been busy, veggie plants desperately need to be planted outside, but some were transplanted into water bottles and plastic cups to allow them more room to grow and separate the pellets at the same time.

We bought our New Hampshire Reds and are loving watching them grow in the dog crate in the house!

The baby chicks are 2 weeks old in these pictures.

Lana is getting so big, and is really a happy active heifer calf.  She is eating calf food, bark, milk, and drinking water.  She is so fun to watch and be around!

Check back soon to see our garden and Baby Chicks outside!!

We are absolutely loving our farm, Lana is doing great, had her horns removed on Monday and she is finally acting happy again.  The trip to the vet was fun, we took her in the back seat of the pick up truck, and she enjoyed looking out the window just like a dog would.

Started seeds for a garden this year, so excited for the snow to melt!

Going to order some New Hampshire Red Chicks soon and build a coop, but again have o wait for the pesky snow!

So we decided on Lana for the name of our beautiful heifer calf.  She is an active little girl that loves to run and play.  She runs faster than all of the cows and loves to do what they do.  If everyone is eating grain, so is Lana, if they are eating hay, so is Lana.

Calf meets the outdoors!

Finally let the baby calf out to run and frolic, and boy did she.  She ran and kicked, and explored.  She is just the sweetest little animal.  We have been trying to decide on the perfect name for her, we have thought of... Sol or Solana, Luna, Sophie, Stephie, or Lana.  Just can't come to an agreement on a definite!  I guess it will come in time.

Calf is doing great and Ginger is too.  They stay close when outside and the other girls are good to her too.

Ginger's Heifer Calf is 1 day old now and doing great!  She is moving all about and even doing some running and jumping.  She is happy helping herself to the "Milkbar" and is of course just an absolute doll!

Feb 1st, 2013.  Calving Journal...

On 1-29-13 Ginger was becoming very swollen in the vulva and bagging up nicely.  Have been discharging lots of Goo for at least 3 weeks.  At night and when relaxing she is doing what looks like practicing pushing.

Today Ginger is very poopy and very slab-sided, to the point if she were not locked in the barn last night, I would have gone searching for a calf outside.

Thinking our due date of Feb 12th may be a bit sooner.  Either way will be happy now or later, I am fine with both!

UPDATE:  Heifer calf born 2/1/13 at 3pm.  Wow, wonderful surprise!
