So one day I wake up to realize that I am running a small farm.  After breeding Labrador Retrievers for 7 years we decided to order some mini cows.  We got 3 Irish Jersey Dexter cross (also called Belmont) cows, 2 heifers and a bull.  They became our favorite pets within a couple of months of having them.  It was great to have them here.  We were of course a bit nervous of them when we first received them.  We had never been so close to such large animals.  At 6 months old the girls outweighed our dogs by about 150 pounds.

So as I said much to my surprise, in 2010, my dream of being a farmer finally came true. 

 

Today we are awaiting the birth of a calf, due on February 12th, 2013.  This will be a very happy day for us all.

 

We have definitely had some ups and downs but have learned a lot at the same time.
